CAPETOWN 2
CAPETOWN 2 – We took off at 9:00 for an all day tour down the peninsula from Capetown with our tour guide Estee.
First stop was a boat trip out to a fur seal colony. All male sea lions. Clyde was very interested.
Clyde also got to interact with the entertainers.
Then on the shore we got to interact with one.
We saw some beautiful seascapes along the way and Clyde hammed it up with us and Estee.
Interesting the way they make highways here.
The we stopped at an African art store and Clyde was charmed by the lovely proprietress.
Then we wandered into baboon territory . They were beside the road and were heading up into the boonies. It seems they had spotted a baboon ranger whose job it was to keep them up in the hills- which he does with a paint ball gun. If you make the mistake of letting one of them into the car, they will make a big mess before they leave.
We then headed up into a nature reserve and Clyde had us pose on the porch of .an early settler's cabin
Our lunch was excellent at the Two Oceans Grill (near where the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans meet) ably served by Robert..
Clyde and I climbed up a cliff (via funicular) to get a look. down at the Cape of Good Hope. Here are some pics.
And here is Clyde looking down on the actual Cape of Good Hope.
And, of course we went down to see it first hand.
Here are some baboons doing their thing. Funny thing happened outside the restaurant – A tired lady with two plastic shopping bags was sitting down resting herself. A sharp-eyed baboon spotted the bags and figured “lunch” and made off with one of them with the husband and a local
ranger in hot pursuit. He took it to the roof of the restaurant and discovered it was just stuff – nothing edible and abandoned it. Quite amusing.
Next stop was a penguin rookery where hundreds of penguins have taken over what used to be a public bathing beach. This is the area where the feature “ City Slickers “ was filmed. Clyde thought their color choice was just right.
