LA Tar Pits

I apologize for the long delay sense since posting on this blog. There have been in many computer problems --- hopefully now overcome. We were in Los Angeles on 18 Jan. We spent 2 days in Los Angeles prior to joining the Serenity. A definite highlight was a trip to the La Brea Tar Pits. It's in a area where asphalt has been bubbling up for at least 55,000 years. A layer of water covers the gooey asphalt. The animals are attracted to the water and then get stuck. How many animals? Tens of thousands. The tar pits still has active areas where excavations are underway. The really amazing thing is the large museum that contains complete skeletons of wooly mammoths, giant sloths, saber toothed tigers, bisons, ancient horses, golden eagles and many others. The museum is located in the middle of Los Angeles 3 miles from our hotel in Beverly Hills. The picture is taken on the grounds with tar still bubbling up in the water. I wish our kids from Gadsden could've seen it.
